Switchgear (5 circuit) --14.png

Elgin Power Solutions’ metal-enclosed switchgear is designed with electrical disconnects or load break switches and fuses.  They are commonly used to protect, control, and isolate different electrical loads within an electrical system.  Our metal-enclosed switchgear is versatile, highly customizable, and can be used in commercial and industrial facilities, colleges or universities, or large solar and renewables projects, to name a few.

Elgin manufactures metal-enclosed switchgear based on the exact specifications and requirements of each customer.  We build switchgear for new or future applications, or to replace existing equipment.

Features & Benefits:

  • Available voltage range of 2.4 to 38 kV.

  • Lower cost compared to Metal Clad or other hybrid type Vacuum Breaker Switchgear.

  • Lower install and maintenance costs.

  • Designs available for top, bottom and side cable entry and exit.

  • Glass reinforced viewing windows are standard for viewing the blade position of the disconnect switches. Infrared viewing ports are available upon request.

  • Front, side and motor operators are available for each disconnect switch.

  • Switches rated for up to 40 KAIC momentary/ fault close capabilities are standard.  61 kAIC switches are available at 15 kV class by request.

  • Grounding switches and ground ball studs are available.

  • Copper phase and ground bus are standard with, tin/ silver plated options.

  • Indoor (NEMA 1) and Outdoor (NEMA 3R) enclosures are available.

  • Three-point latching pad-lockable handles are standard on each switchgear door bay.  Bolt on doors are available upon request.

  • Current Limiting & Expulsion type fuses can be used per customer requirements.

  • Switchgear can be designed per exact customer requirements with multiple switchgear bays.

  • Main fused switch section can be added per request.

  • Units can be pad or skid-mounted.

  • Units can be retrofitted to operate in conjunction with existing switchgear or equipment per exact customer requirements.

  • Units are very robust, built with a minimum 11-gauge mild steel, all welded construction. Stainless Steel, Aluminum, and Galvannealed Steel enclosures are available upon request.

  • Touch proof barriers and insulating boards are standard in each design. Clear polycarbonate and glass polyester laminate (GPO-3) are used.

  • All units are painted with a baked-on powder coat paint system as a standard. Stock colors are Munsell Green, ANSI 70 Gray, ANSI 61 Gray and White. Other colors are available based on request.

  • Power fuses only require 1 cycle for circuit interruption compared to 5 cycles per typical Vacuum Breaker/Relay interruption.

  • No possibility of auto reclosing on fused switchgear.

  • Units are designed and manufactured per latest applicable ANSI (C37.20.3) and IEEE standards.
